Wild Goose Isle in St. Mary's Lake

On our free day we drove north from East Glacier to St. Mary's and west into Glacier National Park in the Going to the Sun Road. The road was only open about 15 miles into the Park, but the drive was spectacular. For most of the drive the road hugs the edge of this jewel of a lake. The snow capped mountains soar on the other side of the lake. Here I am on a nice little perch, taking a few moments to stop and smell the fresh mountain air. Sends shivers up my tail just to think about it.

  5. Just remember that traveling is not always what it seems. Bad hotels, airplanes with tiny seats and some guys that wants to talk about anything and knows nothing, these people won't even take the hint that you have headphones on and don't want to talk to anyone, including them. If I eat at Chilis or Applebees one more time....I'm going postal!

One must take any chance they get to enjoy the trip and relax.

    Thank you WC.
I missed my nephews college granduation so that I could be at the airport at 5:15 AM for this trip. Travel is not always fun and games. Let's not forget my 28 hour flight home from Denver a couple of months ago including a night in a hotel that is lost in the 70's never to emerge. I am a full size person regualrly wedged into economy seats. On this trip the motel had a sign warning us not to drink the water. The best food in town was at the smoke filled Casino; cheap but certainly nothing to write home about. The day before St. Mary's I spent 8 hours on my flippers trying to engage a room full of people, half of whom were there only because someone told them they had to be there, and a couple of whom are MAD AT THE WORLD, including any flightless fowl or furry creature that may be in the line of fire. Interesting travel, but not always fun.

    Glacier was great fun.
A couple more pictures and a travel tip on the Circle R Motel in East Glacier can be found at DG's gale at http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/862f6/c8d78/

The Motel was nice, simple, very clean, well run. The new rooms are modern and comfortable. There is some road noise and trains across Hwy 2, but I am use to city trafic and it does not bother me. The room that I was in had a king bed and an oversized bathroom. There is at least one other motel on hwy 2 in East Glacier (Swan?.) The Lodge is open seasonally and looked quite grand in that early 20th century way. A grand old log hotel built ajacent to a rail road station. If it had been open I would have pushed for staying there. There are a couple of other motels near the Lodge off of hwy 2, they would be father from the hwy trafic but I didn't get a close look.
